Have a portrait painting made

For me, a portrait painting is much more than just a depiction of a face. It's a story, a memory, an emotion. Every brushstroke is an attempt to truly capture someone. Not just how someone looks, but who they are. That's why I believe a portrait only becomes truly valuable when it's personal, when it's moving, and when it creates a connection between the subject and the viewer.

Whether it's a loved one, a family member, a child, a parent, a pet, or even yourself, I consider it an honor to capture that unique presence on canvas. A portrait painting is a lasting memory. A heirloom that can be cherished for generations. Also read my blog post, " Art is coming home to yourself ."

Why I paint portraits

I've always been fascinated by faces. A look often says more than words. There's a story hidden in the subtle lines of a mouth, the twinkle in an eye, or the tension in a pose. I try to translate that story into paint and color.

A photo freezes a moment. But a painting can go further: it can add atmosphere, amplify emotion, and create a certain timelessness. By consciously choosing colors, light, and composition, a portrait is created that not only shows a likeness but also evokes a feeling.

My background in communications helps me understand that story even better. In a personal conversation, I'll listen to your memories, wishes, and ideas. This way, the painting becomes more than just a work of art. It becomes a piece of your shared history.

How I work

Every assignment is different, but my approach follows a few standard steps. This way, you know exactly what to expect:

Introduction and inspiration

We'll start with a conversation. You tell me who you'll be painting and what kind of atmosphere you have in mind. Sometimes these are very specific requests, like a specific outfit, a background, or a color palette. Sometimes the feeling is more important: warm and soft, classic and timeless, or modern and powerful. Anything is possible.

Reference and composition

Based on photos (or a meeting), I collect visual material. From this, I create a composition in which pose, gaze, and light converge to create a strong whole. This forms the basis of the portrait.

Construction in layers

Then the painting process begins. I always work in multiple layers: first, an underpainting in which I create light and dark, then layers of color that create depth and nuance. Layer by layer, the portrait grows, and slowly the person on the canvas begins to come to life.

Details and emotion

The final phase is my favorite part: refining the details. The sparkle in the eyes, the subtle shadow around the mouth, the warm glow on the skin—these are the elements that give a portrait soul.

Finishing and protection

Finally, the painting is given a protective layer of varnish, so that the colours continue to shine and the work lasts for many years.

Together we determine the style

No two portraits are alike. Some clients opt for a classic and realistic portrait reminiscent of old masters. Others prefer a modern and expressive style with vibrant colors and a contemporary feel.

We'll discuss together which style best suits the individual and your needs. You can also choose:

  • Intimate small works – perfect for personal gifts.
  • Larger portraits – impressive on the wall and a real eye-catcher.
  • Family or duo portraits – several people together on one canvas.

A lasting memory

A portrait painting is a gift that becomes increasingly valuable with time. It can be a loving reminder of someone who is no longer with us, a special way to celebrate a phase in life, or a personal gift for someone you care about.

What makes it so special for me is that each painting tells its own story. I've created works as wedding gifts, birthday surprises, to celebrate a birth, or as a tribute to someone I miss. And each time, it's touching to see how a portrait touches people.

Your unique artwork

As an artist, I believe it's important that a portrait isn't just of someone, but also for someone. That's why I'd like to involve you in the entire process. You can observe sketches, contribute ideas about colors, and provide feedback along the way. This way, a work of art emerges that bears not only my signature but also your own feelings.

Together we create something meaningful. Something that evokes memories, brings smiles, and tells stories every day.
