Artist statement

Ik creëer omdat ik niet anders kan. Mijn werk ontstaat uit een innerlijke noodzaak: beelden maken die mijzelf raken en betekenis geven. Ik maak niet om te voldoen aan verwachtingen, maar om trouw te blijven aan mijn eigen blik.

In mijn schilderijen onderzoek ik de spanning tussen tegenpolen – licht en donker, heden en verleden, individu en gemeenschap. Die tussenruimte, dat ongrijpbare midden, noem ik In Between Two Worlds. Daar waar stilte spreekt, waar verlies en hoop elkaar raken, en waar verhalen een nieuwe vorm krijgen.

Mijn kunst is figuratief én abstract. Figuren verschijnen en verdwijnen in lagen van kleur, transparantie en symbolen. Ze zijn soms herkenbaar, soms slechts een zweem, zoals herinneringen die vervagen maar nooit verdwijnen. Inspiratie vind ik in verhalen van mensen: persoonlijke geschiedenissen, lokale verhalen, en universele thema’s als rouw, verbondenheid en veerkracht.

Wat ik maak, begint altijd bij mijzelf – bij mijn eigen zoektocht om betekenis te geven. Maar zodra een werk bestaat, behoort het ook aan de ander. Mijn schilderijen nodigen de kijker uit om zichzelf te herkennen in de tussenruimte: daar waar mijn verhaal even het hunne wordt.

Inspiration from my surroundings

The Netherlands, Almelo, Amsterdam and Groningen and my time in Italy have shaped me. The architecture and culture in particular are often sources of inspiration for my work. I translate these impressions into colorful compositions with symbolism and emotion.

With a combination of craftsmanship, customization, cultural influences and personal expression, I try to create art that stays with you and touches the viewer.
